As someone who is not exactly musically inclined would it be better/easier for me to learn to play from a friend that plays or from a licensed guitar instructor? I hear it’s always harder to learn as you get older. I’m 46.
It’s never to late to start. I to have the desire to learn and I’m 53, currently in Iraq, bought a ukulele( I know. Hardly a guitar) and a beginners book. Six weeks into it, I am just now getting the finger positions for chord transitions and the strumming techniques down. I practice for at least 45 mins. a nite. I can see the benefit of advice from an experienced player and know I will not soon play lead.
If you think your serious then by all means take lessons from a pro. Your lesson is scheduled. He is an instructor payed to teach you and can probably help you progress faster then your friend by concentrating on the fundamentals.
I can strum a few songs now but can see that if I want to be better then I need a Pro to help me.
Spend the $20 per lesson and then you can show your friend what you’ve learned and compare notes. Two for the price of one.
Good luck, Old Dog

I’m 11 and left handed but I play guitar right handed. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana played simulary; he was right handed, but he played left handed. If the strumming is easier than fretting, then shouldn’t you do the fretting with your dominant hand? So why do you have to play the difficult way?
You know, I’ve wondered about that myself a number of times, but I’ve still never come up with a decent answer. Maybe it isn’t as hard to coordinate your left fingers as it is to coordinate other muscles in your left hand? For example, when you type on a keyboard, it isn’t any easier to type with your right hand than with your left hand.
That’s just a bunch of speculation, but I hope it helps!

I want to learn to play Music Keyboard, I have got my Keyboard but I haven’t got any tuition books yet, Which websites can I use to get me started?
Thanks
I’ve recently started learning a new instrument and I love it!!! There are so many sites you can learn from. Try these to start with:
http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/music/piano/index.htm
http://gardenofpraise.com/keybdles.htm
If you want to find other sites that offer you help on playing the keyboard, why not try googling it? Have fun!!!

Im 20 and I love the guitar but I do not know how to play and am going to start learning…Im really into the electric guitar and not so much for the acoustic but I have heard it is easier to start on acoustic and then move electric. Any Ideas?
Hello there,
You answered your own question. You said you are really into electric guitar and not so much into acoustic. Why learn what you are not into?
Learning is enough of a challenge without having to force yourself to learn something that is not really of interest.
If I may, I would suggest you look for a good quality used guitar for a starter. You can get a used good quality guitar for about the price of a new lesser quality guitar. More bang for your buck. Also, the new guitar loses value the moment you take it home. If in 6 months you decide you really do not want to bother learning to play, you are out less money.
By good quality, I do not mean top of the line guitars. Good quality starter guitars. Squier by Fender is fine. Epiphone by Gibson is also fine.
You can check your local want ads, Craig’s List, the Trader and the like. Even look on eBay. Pick up the best you can afford. However plan on spending about 1/2 of your money on the guitar. The amp is a big part of your sound. A great guitar played through a lousy amp sounds lousy. A mediocre guitar played through a great amp sounds decent. Don’t underestimate the amp when you are shopping.

I’ve recently recieved a guitar as an end of the school year present, but I will admit I can not play one single chord. Does anyone know where I could get lessons close to home?
Usually, music stores have a guy in a back room that gives lessons. I would ask their first.
Chances are, if they sell guitars, there’s a guy they can hook you up with for lessons. Good Luck and have fun.
you have a SAM ASH there in Paterson.

I am a seventh grader. I am 13 years old. I dream of going to an Ivy League college. What are the chances? I have straight A+, will be part of the National Honor Society, play the piano, and most of all: I attend a tennis academy in which I play 7-8 hours of tennis each day. I will be studying for my SATs soon. I will have many hours of community service. I will most likely be ranked top 25 in the country in tennis. I am planning to take mostly all honors and AP classes. I teach myself through textbooks (distance learning) and send my work each week to my teacher on the other side of the country. Money/tuition is not a problem for us. Please tell me if you think I will be accepted into an Ivy League. I really appreciate it, Thanks!
Well it sounds like you’re on your way, but don’t kill yourself trying to get in. There are plenty of reasons to go to state schools too, but if money isn’t an issue, than go right ahead and pay more for school. You should ask yourself why you feel you need to go to an Ivy league school. If you’re going into a field like business or political science it can be a big advantage to study under the professors that teach at the Ivy leagues, because they atract the best of the best. But if you’re studying a science as an undergraduate, you want to look at what programs are offered where and what projects you might get to work on while you’re there. There are so many good universities in the US, you should really figure out what you want first, then pick the University based on what they’re offering. The lure of status can be tempting, but think about what you want first. Good luck, and make sure to leave yourself some time for you.

When ever i see people playing together on youtube it seems so much fun. I want to play with someone else as well on the guitar. But my friends or no one else i know plays the guitar.
Only my guitar teacher. But would it be weird. Since i am a girl (me 16) and he’s(him in mid30’s) a guy he might think i have a crush on him if i ask him if we can play a song together just for fun?
Or should i not ask him?
why not? its playing guitar, not having sex xD
just ask if you and he could play a song together for a youtube video or school assignment.
and that you dont know anyone else who plays the guitar
good luck and send me the link if you did it! im curious

SO I’VE HAD 1 LESSON WITH MY GUITAR TEACHER AND I DONT KNOW IF HE’S GOOD OR NOT HOW DO I KNOW IF HE’S GOOD OR BAD? THANKS GUYS!
Let me point this out. A good teacher will NEVER show off is skills because it can easily discourage the student. Been there and done it with no bad intentions. No more. If he explains and shows you well, I am sure he knows his stuff.
Having said this, I had a student who tried to be smart and played well. I had to show him that he cannot teach the professor but those are exceptions.

what qualifications do i need to become a guitar tutor? (private or through a school) Id be grateful for as much information as possible. thanks.
You need to be able to play the guitar and the ability to teach.
Although many things are regulated by Government Watchdogs they haven’t got around to guitar teachers yet.
