SO I’VE HAD 1 LESSON WITH MY GUITAR TEACHER AND I DONT KNOW IF HE’S GOOD OR NOT HOW DO I KNOW IF HE’S GOOD OR BAD? THANKS GUYS!
Let me point this out. A good teacher will NEVER show off is skills because it can easily discourage the student. Been there and done it with no bad intentions. No more. If he explains and shows you well, I am sure he knows his stuff.
Having said this, I had a student who tried to be smart and played well. I had to show him that he cannot teach the professor but those are exceptions.

For those who take lessons or if you are a guitar teacher yourself, how do the lessons usually go about in order?
For example, I would guess you start with
the names of strings,
then a few simple chords/progression,
followed by pentatonic scales, and the circle of fifths.
After all these basics are taught, how can you further advance the student?
- Can someone just tell me what they teach after all the basics (chords, strings, tuning, circle of fifths) etc
Lessons should be flexible and tailored to the student. There should not really be a set order. You don’t teach a 5yo the same way as a 16yo the same way as a 35yo, etc. You don’t teach someone who likes acoustic vs. electric the same way and there are many more differences.
But what you mentioned can be a good way to start.

I would like to emabark on the doubtless long and tedious journey of becoming a hobby-Mariachi.
There’s just one problem:
I’m in New Zealand, not exactly Mariachi Central, and Dunedin at that is really more suited to learning bagpipes.
Does anyone know of anyone who teaches Mariachi-style guitar in Dunedin?
Never mind Mariachi-Style teachers now – start by learning the Basics! You can build on that any time, and even refine your style by book or video. (well, a real teacher is better, of course, but it’s a start, isn’t it?)

I need a good teacher. Someone who doesn’t cost so much.
OK, what is the triangle area? I know there are many areas that refer to the "Tri-State" area, meaning, that there are three states that are close together and can be reached in an hour or so…..Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky refer to this at times in the Louisville, Cincinnati area. Check your local newspaper or check with a university or high school music department.

^^^ That’s sorta like the description to this video.
Enjoy. Lots of videos are going to posted in the next couple days.
PS: MTV cut me out. I’m not on the show anymore. They said there wasn’t enough time to put me in, and the show was mostly about the older people battling. Too bad. The footage will be on MTV.com though, so I will give you guys the link when I can find it.

My teacher just asks me if there’s a song I want to learn, but I can do those at home, he’s really good, but I don’t feel like I’ve learnt much from him. What can I ask him to ‘teach’ me, I’m past being a beginner, so what’s next? I want techniques and new stuff to learn, in order to become an intermediate, instead of just learning simplish songs.
Thanks
Single string work. – lead lines, riffs, even tunes. I grew up in the 60’s so I enjoy playng Shadows’ numbers, and have taught my pupils that kind of music. Introductory riffs or mid- song solos. A classic example is the riff from Johnny B Goode.
Hope this helps
